What Happens During a Breast Lift Procedure?
A breast lift procedure aims to improve the position and enhance the overall tone and shape of the breasts by removing excess skin and correcting asymmetries in breast size, shape, and placement. Dr. Zinsser uses a variety of techniques to produce the best results for your anatomy.
Breast Lift Techniques
If you’re considering a breast lift, chances are you’ve researched a few of the techniques and incisions to perform breast lifts. At Zinsser Plastic Surgery, Dr. Zinsser performs breast lifts with different techniques based on your anatomical and aesthetic needs.
Donut Lift
This incision requires removing excess skin in the shape of a donut around the areola. It’s preferred for women with mild to moderately sagging breasts and for reducing the size of the areola. The only scar is around the areola. It is also an effective breast lift technique for women who are looking to have breast augmentation simultaneously.
Vertical Lift
This technique is also called the Lollipop Lift. It involves two incisions: one around the areola and the other placed vertically from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease. It’s the preferred incision for women with moderately sagging breasts.
Full Mastopexy
Also known as an Anchor Lift, this lift involves three incisions: one around the areola, a horizontal incision at the bottom of the breast crease, and a vertical incision to connect the incisions. This procedure is effective for women with a high degree of breast sagging. It is also the optimal incision for women looking for a breast reduction simultaneously.

Breast Lift Richmond, VA FAQs
Typically, most patients enjoy the results from their breast lift for 10 to 15 years before they may consider a revision. However, breast lift results are also dependent on factors like age, genetics, health, lifestyle, and diet. Surgical technique may also contribute to the length of time your breast lift results last.
Recovery time for a tummy tuck is approximately 4-6 weeks. Though you will be discharged from the medical facility the day of your procedure, you will likely need assistance completing normal tasks for a few days, especially if you have young children.
As with any surgical treatment, it is important to follow Dr. Zinsser’s instructions regarding activities, cleansing, garment use, wound and drain care, and sun exposure to ensure optimal results from your tummy tuck procedure. We will provide you with a full list of aftercare instructions to follow that includes nutrition and hydration.
Generally, a breast lift procedure takes three and a half hours to perform. However, you should also consider that it takes time to administer anesthesia as well as preparing you to go home following the surgery.
Following your breast lift, you should take one to two weeks off from work. However, if you have a physically strenuous job, you may require more recovery time. You may also experience residual swelling that should resolve by six weeks following your surgery.
Typically, a breast lift helps to restore the more youthful position of the breasts by addressing the redundant, stretched skin that causes sagging, deflated breasts, but it doesn’t aim to increase the size of the breasts. A breast augmentation helps increase or restore the fullness of the breasts using an implant. If you are concerned about both sagging, drooping breasts and lost volume, a breast lift with implants may help to you achieve your aesthetic goals while also boosting your confidence.
