Dr. Zinsser and Staff are truly the best. Warm, kind and very accommodating in every way possible. Due to a botched breast lift from a previous surgeon, Dr. Zinsser has been able to minimize the damage with corrective surgeries over the last 1.5 years. I feel so confident with his abilities, that I know my final outcome will be amazing. Dr. Z is a perfectionist and he takes the time to discuss in detail every aspect of the procedures he performs.

A Conversation with Dr. Zinsser

I grew up in Texas where I did my primary and secondary education, including college and medical school.

I have wanted to pursue a career in medicine since childhood. I decided to focus on aesthetics once I started my surgical residency.

After graduating high school in Texas, I completed my undergraduate degree at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. I then completed Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center and 2 additional years of research, in San Antonio Texas. I then completed a complete General Surgery program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. I finished my training and education by completing my Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee. I started this journey in 1981 after finishing high school, and completed the training at Vanderbilt in 1998, 17 years after high school to become a Plastic Surgeon.

I had an interest in medicine and surgery from a very early age, but my interest in Plastic Surgery didn’t develop until I was exposed to the specialty during my General Surgery training. I was impressed with the depth of the specialty and complexity of the different aspects of both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.

I really enjoy helping patients achieve or restore a more youthful, refreshed, version of themselves. Seeing the joy on their face as they realize how what we can do helps them with self-confidence, self-esteem, and body image. Every patient is different and represents unique challenges with their particular anatomy and goals.

I specialize in cosmetic surgical procedures of the face, breast, and body including the extremities. We treat post weight-loss patients with reconstruction and eliminating the poor tissue tone after extensive weight loss. We also treat Trans-patients who are completing their journey with surgery.

I enjoy spending time with my wife and 2 daughters, who are grown and on their own paths with their dreams and education. I enjoy playing golf and working outdoors in the yard. To help with relaxation, I enjoy exercise, listening to music and playing  guitar. I also have a beautiful 2 year old German Shepherd named Coda that occupies a lot of my time.

I spent the first 10 years of practice in a “group practice” and lost my identity in a group that didn’t reflect my philosophy of work and dedication to patient care. Once I started my own solo practice in 2007, my professional and personal life has improved exponentially.

Patients choose us for many reasons, some of which include our:

  • Attention to personalized customer service
  • Dedication to helping patients achieve their goals
  • Friendly, non-pressuring atmosphere
  • Great reviews and excellent track record
  • Years of experience and expertise in all aspects of surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation

In essence, our entire process revolves around you and how we can provide you with the best overall experience in pursuit of your goals.

Passionate, funny, dedicated

I have always tried to treat patients (people) how I would like to be treated and try to take the time to listen to them and show them that we as a practice are here for them every step of the way from beginning to end. I give patients my personal phone number so that they always feel that I am accessible to them during their recovery process.

I have learned to appreciate the little things. And that it is OK to sometimes say “no”, and that there are occasionally patients that I cannot help.

Our philosophy is providing a service to help patients discover a new refreshed and rejuvenated self, with respect, caring, and compassion. Customer service is something we take very seriously here at ZPS!!

Dr. R Bruce Shack from Vanderbilt has made the most impact on me as far as the surgeon I am today. Without his teaching and guidance, I would not be where I am today. I was also influenced by Dr. Arnold Diethelm from The University of Alabama at Birmingham, who always demonstrated professionalism and commitment to going beyond what is expected in your efforts to help a patient.

I think one of the things that sets me and ZPS apart is our approach to patient care;  a relaxed no-pressure atmosphere where we are committed to providing information to help the patient decide that the specific procedure is the right one to help them achieve their goals, and that WE are the practice to help them get there!
